Prior to joining 5280 defense, Drew spent over a half decade prosecuting state charges at the Denver District Attorney’s office. During that time, Drew was the lead prosecutor and responsible for thousands of cases ranging from low level misdemeanor offenses to the highest level felonies, including homicide.
Drew adds to the extensive courtroom experience already established at 5280. At the District Attorney’s office, he tried over 50 misdemeanor and felony cases to a jury or judge, in addition to handling numerous pretrial matters including preliminary, bond, and motions hearings.
In addition to his trial work, Drew prosecuted approximately 500 felony cases from intake to disposition including, but not limited to, charges of murder in the first degree, attempted murder, first and second degree assault, sexual assault, kidnapping, arson, and aggravated robbery. Drew has also handled more than 3,000 misdemeanor cases from intake to disposition, including charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, third degree assault including domestic violence matters, unlawful sexual contact, indecent exposure, and careless driving resulting in injury and death. He also successfully tried and prosecuted numerous driving under the influence cases to a jury that included blood and breath testing for alcohol and drugs.
Among his areas of expertise are felony drug offenses. During his time as a prosecutor, he worked closely with the Denver narcotics unit of the Denver Police Department related to the filing of hundreds of felony drug cases. He was also personally responsible for the prosecution of felony drug charges relating to the manufacturing, sale, and distribution of narcotics in Denver.
During his tenure as a prosecutor and trial attorney at the Denver DA’s office, Drew worked closely with law enforcement regarding case intakes, filings, and search warrants, resulting in valuable insight into the inner workings of law enforcement and prosecutor offices in Colorado. As such, he is able to quickly evaluate a case for potential issues and provide trial-tested advice on how best to move forward.
Drew is licensed to practice law before all Colorado County and District courts, the Colorado Court of Appeals, and the Colorado Supreme Court..
