Drug court is an alternative to jail or prison. It is available after a guilty plea or even a conviction by a jury. It is based in Colorado law and applies to cases where the judge determines that you are:
Addicted to a drug;
In need of treatment for a drug addiction; or
Dependent upon a drug.
After this finding is made, the judge will order you to participate in drug treatment. This can last as long as four years. In the meantime, your case is placed on hold. If you are successful in treatment, the case will be dismissed. If you are unable to complete the treatment, you will face the full range of punishment.
